THE HISTORICAL MOMENT OF PASIR SALAK

Pasir Salak is one of the famous historical places in Malaysia. it is considered as  the place of where modern history started despite the background was covered with blood and violance. James Wheeler Woodford Birch, who are  known simply as J.W.W. Birch was annihilated in this particular place. he was the first British Resident after the Pangkor Treaty of 1874 was sign. he was murdered on the 2nd of November 1875.

the history stated that Birch was murdered due his disrespect towards the Malay rulers and the rules he presented was ridiculous and can not be accepted by the locals. Dato Maharajalela was extremely displeased with Birch attitude. He himself abolished slavery in Perak yet he was keeping himself slaves within his very own household. Plus, Dato' Maharajalela's income was pretty much derived from selling the Orang Asli as a slave. the abolishing probably give him a severe wound in the pocket.

Pangkor Treaty and implementation of this system has basically ease a wedge between the feuding factions in Perak . Pembesar-pembesar Perak and Sultan Abdullah's finally realized the mistake after they signed the Treaty of Pangkor that directly aside their traditional rights in matters of tax collection and control in their own profits which resulting in each colony has stalled in the face of this British colonial power strength . Finally, they have resorted to killing JWW Birch and his escorts in Pasir Salak on November 2, 1875.

Following from this bloody event, The British has launched a massive war against the people of Perak Malays in order to catch the killer  of JWW Birch . Police forces , the army and the English navy under the command of Captain Speedy surrounded the Perak waters . The houses of the Malays that the suspects were burnt , the defense of the Malay people in Batak Rabit was on an all-out attack and eventually captured . English continues to advance along the Silver River and killed without mercy. Despite the lack of weapons and war tactics, the Perak Malays are still capable of fighting British attack such as that done in the Old City . Silver war has lasted up to the year 1876 and the end of all involved in the murder of JWW birch arrested and tried this war ended.
