birch murderer
        (Source: Arkib Negara Malaysia)
Written by Sir William Jervois, Governor of the straits Settlements to the Earl of Carnavon in 1877, this letter is about the execution of Dato' Maharajalela and his accomplices for murdering Birch in 1875. a recommendation was made by Jervois to let the other four of the accomplices to be held in lifetime prisons instead of being hang along with Dato Maharajalela.

After the Murder of JWW Birch, Dato Maharajalela, Dato Sagor and Pandak Indut were caught and hang and his other accomplices were exiled from the country. Sultan Abdullah who was found guilty is of assisting the murder of Birch was exiled to the Seychelles for 16 years.

Due the Murder of JWW BIRCH, the title of "MAHARAJALELA" were made extinct after the last holder of the title, Dato' Pandak Lam was executed.

In my point of view, i was pretty interested in the nationalism of Dato' Maharajalela at first but then , when you read more, you know more. Right at this moment i am probably thinking that Dato' Maharajalela fight was actually not laudable but it is his fight and he died protecting what he believes in. Everyone have their own judgement.
